Making First Contact and Victim Communication in CSAM Cases
This training is one in a series of modules to educate law enforcement on how to best support victims and survivors of CSAM. The training builds upon the foundational module, Understanding CSAM and Its Impacts, and the theme of choice, consent, and control. NCMEC developed this training in collaboration with adult survivors, law enforcement, caregivers, attorneys, forensic interviewers, and many others in this field.
Topics covered in this training include:
• Describing the importance of first contact with the victim and/or their family and how to navigate interest from the media.
• Identifying NCMEC's resources and other services that best support survivors of CSAM regarding their safety, security, and privacy.
• Defining best practices for establishing, maintaining, and ending long-term communication with survivors of CSAM.
